Seminar of the ČSTN association in DT Ostrava and TŽ Třinec (May 2023)
On May 11-12, 2023, the 1st seminar of the ČSTN Prague association took place this year. The introduction belonged to the manager of the Ostrava House of Technology, who introduced us to the new trends in training, which were started by the isolation of potential training participants in connection with the recent covid. During the training, interesting numbers were heard, e.g. out of 5 million economically active inhabitants, 1 million professions will disappear by 2030, only 1/3 of workers currently participate in training courses. Terms such as hybrid learning, micro or nano learning represent new teaching methods for targeted training of interested parties in the shortest possible time.
This was followed by a lecture by doc. Ing. Petr Konečný, Ph.D. from the Faculty of Civil Engineering VŠB-TU Ostrava, concerning the issue of BIM (Building Information Modelling), i.e. the path to digital construction. Docent Konečný explained the basic principles of this methodology to the participants of the seminar, highlighted the positives of digitization and robotization of the construction industry and also drew attention to the difficulties they face when implementing this methodology in the Czech Republic. At the end of his presentation, he also presented the educational programs of the Faculty of Civil Engineering VŠB-TUO, which deal with BIM issues.
Many were also interested in the lecture of Mgr. Pavlíny Szöke, representative of MSVK Ostrava (Moravian-Silesian Scientific Library) on the possibilities of using access to scientific information and a whole number of foreign and domestic journals through digital databases for very reasonable fees. At the end of the presentation, the participants of the seminar were presented with a visualization of the new MSVK building, which should be implemented in 2027.
Of course, there was also a lecture by the director of the TN department, Ms. Zdena Slaná from the ČAS Agency, who introduced the present participants to historical documents connected with the significant anniversary of the establishment of technical standardization 100 years ago in the Czech lands. She also talked about the possibility of free use of the ČSN set of standards for high school and university students and drew attention to other activities related to the promotion of technical standardization among young engineers, technicians, managers and businessmen, such as the opportunity to participate in a unique ISO/IEC workshop dedicated to the next generation experts and leaders in the field of technical standardization.
Representative of TEMA IHS Prague Ing. Zdeněk Liška in his contribution informed about the possibilities of online access to educational programs and instructions for ASTM standards and about the change of owner of the company IHS-Market-Global Engineering Solutions, which will go under the new name ACCURIS. All products, databases and services in the field of delivery of foreign standards will be offered without change.
The conclusion of the event included (following the example of the DIN-ANP Nuremberg events) an excursion to the company Škoda Vagonka Ostrava (see photo), whose production range and connection to technical standards had already been presented to us in the past by our member Ing. Pavlína Musilová. As part of the excursion, we saw the production of passenger railway rolling stock literally from A to Z and got acquainted with a number of technological operations, test methods and strict safety requirements that this production must meet.
The seminar also included a visit to the Třinec TŽ Museum, where we watched a video lecture about the early beginnings of the ironworks and its subsidiaries (currently 30). We discussed with the chairman of ČHS (Czech Metallurgical Society) Ing. Jiří Cupek Ph.D. on the issue of decarbonization, the need to change steel production technology in connection with the tightening limits for CO2 production, and also on the irreplaceability of steel in industry due to the endless circulation of this material.
The next ČSTN event will take place on the 11th-12th September 2023 in the newly restored brownfield of the agricultural cooperative Vinařství Skalák, where, among other things, we are preparing a tour of the Steel drawing plant in Staré Město near Uherské Hradiště (TŽ Třinec production plant), presentation focused on the technical standardization of FERONA Praha and DOOSAN Plzeň. Representatives from Slovakia have also promised to participate, they will introduce us to both the historical development of ČSVTS/ZSVTS and the current activities of SSTN (Slovak Society for Technical Standardization). The program will also include information from the World Engineers Day in the Senate of the Czech Republic (March 14, 2023), which was attended by two members of our association's committee. And we cannot forget the reminder of the final preparations for the World Engineering Olympiad - WEC 2023, which will take place on the 12th-15th October 2023 in Prague and is the most important event of ČSVTS Prague in recent years.
