ČSTN association (The Czech Society for Technical Standardization, registered association) under new management

Published: Sunday, 22 November 2020 Print

At the end of November 2019, a new management of the ČSTN association was elected at the General Meeting. To improve the operation, the number of committee members has been reduced to the current 7. As in other associations, in the current coronavirus period, the activity is performed by videoconferencing. Since March 2020, our committee of the ČSTN association has held 5 video conferences, at which important changes were made in the organization. It was the election of a new executive of the association and the decision to cancel the lease in the ČSVTS building in Prague. Already now, almost 5 months after this decision, the financial budget is starting to have a positive result and we consider the intention of the committee members to be very positive.

The meeting at the 1st General Meeting after the election of the new committee of the association in Znojmo on September 14, 2020, which was attended by 70% of ČSTN members, was connected with a seminar on current topics. Annotations of lectures are on our new website (www.cstn.cz). To illustrate, I present the lectured topics, including lecturers:

Steel industry - current development issues (Ing. Toman, Ing. Hájek, Ing. Dufek)

Issues of RES - Renewable energy sources (TS Třanovice - Ing. Krzywoń)

Providing professional activities for technical commissions in the development of standards (Consulab - Ing. Hadrava)

Use of technical standards in non-manufacturing companies (Zdar, Žďár n. S. - Ing. Beran)

Advantages of using SW EviNor in TŽ a.s. Třinec (Ing. Turoňová)

Steel seamless tubes according to ISO 3183: 2020 (LTP Ostrava - Ing. Gemrot)

For clarity, I also present the topics at the last seminar held in Prague on November 20, 2019:

WEC - World Engineers Convention - October 2023 Prague (Ing. Jiří Kratochvíl)

Experience with teaching technical standardization at universities and high schools (Ing. Václav Voves)

Corporate floating licenses of national standardization bodies (Ing. Zdeněk Liška)

Steel Union - CTN (Technical Standardization Center) for metalurgy in the Czech Republic (Ing. Taťána Ujházy)

What is being prepared in the near future?

The main activity of ČSTN is to support the comprehensive development and application of technical standardization in all areas of science, technology and economics. In February this year, we agreed to cooperate with the ČAS organization (Czech Standardization Agency) in the field of organizing seminars.

We plan to organize a lecture block on the topic of ISO 50001 standard (Energy Management) with the author of the comments on this standard and also with the responsible auditor for this area. We also intend to hold lectures at the Ostrava House of Technology (DT Ostrava), where the ČSTN branch association has been operating for many years - Commission of Technical Standardization at the civic association SMS VTS and P (Silesian-Moravian Association of Scientific and Technical Societies and Branches).

To approach the activities of our branch in DT Ostrava, I present an overview of topics for the last event in 6/2019:

Questions and answers about electromobility from the perspective of SMART EV,

Preparation of hydrogen technology for transport in MSK

EviNor SW issues - customer experience

Current information in the field of iron metalurgy

As usual, the seminar was preceded by an excursion to a selected factory - this time to Liberty Tubular Products Ostrava. During the twenty years of the Commission's operation, we have visited many surrounding companies with knowledgeable guides.

The new management of the association is interested in the members contributing their proposals for the organization of seminars and also actively participated in them with their experience, not only in the field of technical standardization.

At present, there is no longer a production unit or service center, which does not have an audit of the quality process according to ISO 9001 standards or in the field of the environment according to ISO 14001. Gradually, of course, other health and safety standards are being introduced, so practical advice with the solution of these standards is certainly attractive to a wider range of listeners. Even in these areas, members of our association can present their own experience from their companies.

We have been cooperating with DIN-ANP Nuremberg for many years, where we have almost always participated in their events in the past, which was an inspiration for our seminars. Now, at the time of Covid-19, events are taking place only electronically.

In 2022, 100 years will pass since the establishment of the Czechoslovak Standards Society, when exactly 28.12.1922 prof. Vladimír List, together with the former Minister of Trade, started the activities of this organization. We don't have much time left until the annual date, so I assume, that our association ČSTN, which is also the founding association of ČSVTS, in the current very difficult time will be creative in the selection of lectures and will contribute with actions to even deeper knowledge of this field of human activity, without which production, trade and services in the world can no longer be.
